I had the opportunity to attend one of Rikk Flohr's Lightroom classes last night. The price was right, the class size perfect, and the time well spent. I learned a lot and can now spend more time using Lightroom to improve my image management - now that I know a but more about it. I have to say the class was well paced and chock full of useful information delivered in an entertaining and well-managed style. Lightroom is designed for photographers and reasonably priced but it takes a class or two to get a grip on it. Rikk provides excellent help and his many blogs and local classes are a great way to get a leg up on it.

Bruce Dale - 30 Years of BAD Pictures

Bruce Dale has been a professional photographer for 30 years and during that time a prolific shooter for National Geographic magazine. He estimates the magazine has published over 2000 of his images during that time.

There is a short video he produced showcasing some of those images during which he talks about his work. It's called 30 years of bad pictures because as Bruce describes it; tradition at the Geographic was to stamp your initials on each box of images and his initials were "BAD". He caught someone throwing out his images one day while remarking that the images weren't "that bad".

Check out this video it's a great retrospective of his time at the Geographic.

Top Ten Lies Told to Artists

I was talking with Crosstown Camera Club member and professional photographer Peter Wong about marketing and getting paid for art work. He mentioned times when art directors have tried to underpay him for his hard work and use his images on the cheap with various promises. By mere coincidence I came across this prior article on the subject I'll pass on. Click on images below for larger view.

Intellectual Property Seminar - Cheap!

Below is a press release the council received from an organization dedicated to helping stock photographers. It announces a seminar that deals with copyright and licensing issues that are important to every photographer who ultimately wishes to sell or license their images. The seminar will be proceeded by a social hour that should be fun for all attendees. And it is only $10.00 for those who register in advance!

(Click the announcement below to see the particulars of this seminar)

The seminar is being held at the Lockridge, Grindal and Nauen law firm in Minneapolis. Being a lawyer I have had to hire a lawyer from time to time. I have hired this firm in the past and can attest to their proficiency in the law.
