Here is a link to an interesting article that discusses the value of a photographers work. It briefly discusses the value of an image, and "positioning" your work to add value to it. Ah - since when does promoting the commercial value of an image equate to photographers "who take their images seriously"?? This is rather an amateurish and even condescending view of photography.
Those individuals who earn a living from photography certainly have a vested interest in trying to enhance the commercial value of their images. While important to them, it is a separate issue from 'serious' photography.
All dedicated photographers value and take their images seriously - for whatever purposes they are taking photographs for. Great photographs transcend the marketplace and their "value" is not determined by it.
