The Rise of the Small Camera

One of the most praised camera of the year is the Olympus OMD EM1, called the first 'real' pro camera of the micro 4/3 era. Personally I think the EM5 was and is a professional camera, but I can see that the EM1 is a step up and quite desirable - to say nothing of affordable.

Being mirrorless, the OMD series allows for smaller camera bodies, smaller, less expensive lenses, and a decreased investment option for those who do not desire to spend the thousands demanded by Nikon or Canon. Forums have formed, sites on Flicker and other photo sites are set up for users to show the high quality images captured by these new entries into the camera market.

The point is, if Canon and Nikon are not something you can afford, there are plenty of options for those who want to get into photography, join clubs, and compete.  Quality cameras and lenses are out there, don't be intimidated by the big boys, join in and have fun without breaking the bank. Look at Sony, Fuji, Olympus, Panasonic and other smaller units waiting to be snapped up and used.
