About Tamron

Tamron is a leading manufacturer of photographic lenses. Among its many optical and mechanical innovations since the founding of the company in 1950, Tamron's development of mass-produced hybrid aspherical elements paved the way for today’s compact high ratio zoom lenses when, in 1992, this technology was incorporated into the groundbreaking 28-200mm. Tamron continues to lead in this category with the award-winning 18-270mm — featuring an unprecedented 15X zoom range—and featuring Tamron's proprietary Vibration Compensation (VC) system. Tamron has garnered international acclaim for its high ratio zoom lenses.

A MINNESOTA PHOTOGRAPHIC LANDMARK HAS FALLEN

The scenic Tettegouche Arch on Lake Superior has fallen according to news reports. The surefire photo opportunity for countless numbers of photographers and other visitors to the North Shore collapsed into Lake Superior at some point over the weekend. It had suffered the effects of thousands of years of erosion. There was no foul weather reported over the weekend in the area that could have been a contributing factor.

Images of the aftermath may have some historical value, but the real significance of the arch were all the images taken while it was still standing. Fortunately, Rikk Flohr had a few breathtaking before-images of the arch to share below:

Many thanks to Rikk for sharing these beautiful images. To view these and other images, or to purchase any of Rikk's fine work go to his website at: Fleeting Glimpse.

HDR

Our friend Alec Johnson of AC Johnson Photography writes a blog that contains a lot of valuable insight into the craft of image making. He recently posted an article and images on HDR that was quite interesting. He discusses the prevalent use of HDR by photographers who often use the process simply for the sake of creating something new and different. We've all seen those highly graphic images with strange color hues and wild lighting effects in what would otherwise be a commonplace subject. They can be exciting at first to look at. But Alec makes the case for using HDR as a compliment to good photography and not as a substitute for it.

Check out his blog at: www.acjphotoworkshops.com and click on the article "I bet my HDR can beat up your HDR" to read his post. You may also want to check out his photo/video critiques and tutorials while you're there.
